At the age of fourteen, Chuck started his musical journey by teaching himself to play the bass guitar, immediately composing on it as well. Soon after, he repeated the process with electric guitar and acoustic nylon-string guitar. When he started attending Los Angeles Valley College, he was exposed to blues, commercial and latin jazz as well as taking lessons in classical guitar under the tutelage of Dr. Gregory Newton. He transferred to Calarts where he will finish his BFA as a Performer-Composer Music Major and is set to continue towards an MFA. He has been studying with guitarists Stuart Fox and Miroslav Tadic, and composers Michael Jon Fink, Ulrich Krieger, Karen Tanaka, and Marc Lowenstein.
Chuck has taught private guitar lessons for four years and tutored students in musicianship and theory for three years. Additionally, he has taught composition and theory in a classroom environment to middle and high school students for a year through The Community Arts Partnership at CalArts.
