Leila Bishop is a Los Angeles-based harpist who plays in a variety of styles including classical, folk, rock, blues, and jazz.

An accomplished performer, Leila has experience providing music for restaurants, art galleries, church services, and private events such as weddings and parties. She has worked regularly with classical symphony orchestras, pit orchestras, and chamber ensembles, and was a founding member of the band Love Underwater, in which she composed, improvised, sang, and played harp in styles including rock, blues, and jazz.

Leila was born to be a harpist. Since before she could walk, she has been mesmerized by the instrument— family legend has it that she would crawl over to her aunt’s harp and pull herself up by the column to watch her aunt play. Leila studied piano and harp from her childhood through high school, and completed her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts studying under André Tarantiles, where she effectively restarted their harp program after years of inactivity.

Leila is currently pursuing her MFA at California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA, where she studies with Alison Bjorkedal.
